Thanksgiving week

Monday at Lloyd Hall in the Fairmount Park of Phila., one of my favorite places to paint, my students and I saw a tapestry of color from the many trees we saw out of the big glass windows. I showed them how to blend color with adding tones into the tree shapes of color washes. It is called a wet into wet technique and you can use it easily on a high humidity day like it was. We painted indoors but were looking directly out of the windows for the best view of the impact of the fall glory. I showed them how you can build one area to the next as you study and observe one tree at a time. It's sort of like seeing the forest for the trees! Try it, out any window and see how the color changes shape to shape - then check it the next day...

notice the colors and how they relate to each other, let them blend and see what happens... Happy Thanksgiving... for joy of change and relationships, and another atmospheric day to paint. Janet

Janet McShain Is On The Web

,
Hello and welcome to the online blog devoted to my exploration of art and nature. I paint, draw, and sculpt, while viewing the world through the eyes of a naturalist. Water, birds and animals, trees and plant life, are what concern me and I wish to share my experiences with others. I will be posting my artwork, my upcoming shows and my thoughts about my creative process and my work. Feel free to contact me with any questions about what you see, art in general, art in nature or anything that catches your eye.

Happy painting and discovering the natural world around you,

Janet McShain
